David James Smith wins at Press Awards

djspressawrds

We are thrilled to announce that David James Smith has been awarded Feature Writer of the Year
at the Press Awards 2011.

Celebrating the best in British newspaper journalism in 2011, the Press Awards praised David’s writing:

Thoroughly researched and stylishly written like an un-putdownable novel.  ‘The Fallen’, his article on the forgotten ‘jumpers’ of 9/11, was a haunting and original piece of journalism that went viral in pirated form despite the restrictions of News International’s paywall.

You can watch David’s win and hear his acceptance speech here.

In 2010 the new awards for national newspapers – ‘The Press Awards’ – replaced the ‘British Press Awards’.  Organised on behalf of the industry by the Society of Editors, the awards process celebrates the quality, diversity and success of national newspaper journalism in the country.  Proceeds from the awards will help to fund the Journalists’ Charity and the Society of Editors’ campaigning for press freedom.
