Mary Loudon was born in November 1966 and is the author of SECRETS AND LIVES: MIDDLE ENGLAND REVEALED (Macmillan), which was published to enormous acclaim in 2000. She is the author of two highly-acclaimed previous books, UNVEILED: NUNS TALKING (Chatto and Windus), which was a bestseller in the UK and Australia, and REVELATIONS: THE CLERGY QUESTIONED (Hamish Hamilton).  Her new book RELATIVE STRANGER: A LIFE AFTER DEATH is published by Canongate.  She has won two awards from the Society of Authors, and one from Cosmopolitan magazine, for her books, and two regional prizes for her poetry. She has written and broadcast widely and is a regular book critic for the Times. She lives in Wales and London with her husband, Andrew St George, a PR consultant and author, and their daughter.

Although she is a full-time author, and not a journalist, Mary Loudon has written and broadcast widely. She has written reviews or personal articles for all the English national broadsheets, as well as the New Statesman, the Sydney Morning Herald, the Tablet, the Catholic Herald, the TLS, and the British Medical Journal. She has also made over 200 radio and television appearances, and she is a regular guest at the Hay-on-Wye and Cheltenham Literary Festivals.

For television, she has appeared on the BBC’s Newsnight, News, Everyman, Breakfast With Frost, and an independent documentary for BBC 2; Channel 4’s Without Walls, Sunday Matters and Sunday Morning; Sky TV’s Book Programme; and on magazine and discussion programmes for Carlton, GMTV, Central, Granada, Yorkshire TV, the Oxford Channel, and other regional TV stations.

For radio, Mary has appeared frequently on the BBC’s Start The Week, Woman’s Hour, Kaleidoscope, Thought for The Day, Afternoon Shift, The Sunday Programme, Vice or Virtue, the Derek Jameson Show, and on many programmes for LBC, GLR, London Live, London Talk Radio, RadioWales, Radio Scotland and the World Service. Mary has also made over 100 appearances on more than twenty regional radio stations, like Oxford, Birmingham and Leeds. She has often broadcast live, and taken part in debates, panel discussions and live phone-ins.
