Elizabeth Speller was born in Oxford, spent a period living in Italy, and eventually settled in Cirencester. She read Classics and then Ancient History at Cambridge as a mature student, and has contributed to a variety of publications, including the Observer, the Big Issue and Erotic Review.
FOLLOWING HADRIAN was published by Headline in the UK and OUP in the US, and Elizabeth has written A GUIDE TO ATHENS and A GUIDE TO ROME for Granta, who also published her memoir SUNLIGHT ON THE GARDEN: A FAMILY IN LOVE, WAR AND MADNESS in 2006.
