Jan Rüger teaches modern European history at Birkbeck, University of London. He has held visiting fellowships at Yale University and the Australian National University. His book THE GREAT NAVAL GAME (Cambridge, 2007) explores the theatre of power that unfolded between Britain and Germany in the decades before the First World War. He is currently writing a history of the Anglo-German relationship in the nineteenth and twentieth century.
