Professor Paul Stephenson
Paul Stephenson is author of BYZANTIUM'S BALKAN FRONTIER (2000) and THE LEGEND OF BASIL THE BULGAR-SLAYER (2003), a finalist for the Longman History Today Book of the Year Award. He is currently editing a major new collection for Routledge, THE BYZANTINE WORLD. CONSTANTINE was published by Quercus in October 2009 and they will publish JUSTINIAN in Spring 2011.
Educated at the Universities of Cambridge and Oxford, and a sometime fellow of Keble College, Stephenson has researched and taught in the UK, Ireland, Germany, Greece and the USA. He has held fellowships from the British Academy, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and the Onassis Foundation. For six years he was John W. and Jeanne M. Rowe Professor of Byzantine History at the University of Wisconsin, and a research fellow at Dumbarton Oaks (Trustees for Harvard University). He is now Reader in Medieval History at the University of Durham.
Paul is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society.
