Matthew Dennison

Matthew Dennison read English at Christ Church, Oxford, as Douglas Jerrold Scholar, and afterwards the History of Decorative Arts at the University of Glasgow. His thesis – on Sevres porcelain hyacinth pots – was subsequently published in abridged form by Country Life.

His first biography, THE LAST PRINCESS: The Devoted Life of Queen Victoria's Youngest Daughter was published by Weidenfeld & Nicolson in 2007 and became a Hatchards number one bestseller; the following year, it was published in the States by St Martin’s Press.  His biography, EMPRESS OF ROME: The Life of Livia, was published by Quercus in April 2010.  THE TWELVE CAESARS was published earlier this year by Atlantic Books.
 
He is a freelance arts journalist and regular contributor to a wide range of newspapers and magazines: The Times, Daily Telegraph, The Spectator, Country Life, Mail on Sunday, Daily Express, The Field, World of Interiors and Majesty
 
Matthew's new biography of QUEEN VICTORIA will be published later this year by HarperCollins.  He is also currently working on THE BEAUTIFUL MASK: The Life of Vita Sackville West for HarperCollins.  He is married and lives in North Wales.
